Flynt Paint Products

  • What is Flynt Aluminum paint?

Flynt Aluminum paint is an industrial-grade coating originally developed in Hillsboro, Texas. It's formulated with bodied linseed oil that resists water and alkali, providing the elasticity needed to accommodate metal surface expansion and contraction without damage. The paint vehicle functions similarly to long oil spar varnish types, making it effective for both exterior and interior use. It cures to form a durable, elastic film with a lustrous appearance.

  • What is different about Flynt Aluminum paint?

Flynt Aluminum paint is formulated without lead driers or asphalt, which allows it to remain stable in its container for years without darkening or discoloring. When the can lid is properly sealed, the paint won't develop a skin. It provides coverage of approximately 800 square feet per gallon on metal surfaces. During application and drying, 6-8 layers of aluminum flakes rise to the surface, creating a protective metallic barrier against weather, rust, and sun exposure. It's also effective on previously rusted metal surfaces and prevents additional rust corrosion.

  • What can Flynt Aluminum paint be used for?

Flynt Aluminum paint is well-suited for metal storage tanks, metal buildings, roofs, propane tanks, gas and oil storage tanks, fire hydrants, water plant facilities, playground equipment, bridges, guard rails, and other surfaces exposed to outdoor conditions. It can be applied using a brush, spray equipment, or roller.

  • How can Flynt Aluminum paint can save you money?

Flynt Aluminum paint reduces costs through its extended lifespan, often lasting seven years or more. It lowers maintenance expenses by providing exceptional protection for both wood and metal surfaces. Aluminum naturally reflects up to 75% of radiant energy, and because Flynt Aluminum paint maintains its high reflectivity over extended periods, it can significantly decrease evaporation losses in storage tanks. The product is also available in convenient spray cans.

  • Is Flynt Aluminum paint environmentally friendly?

The Aluminum paint contains under 500 g/l VOCs, making it compliant in almost all regions nationwide. And its long-lasting formulation (up to 7 years or more!) means fewer times recoating is required.
  • Other tips for Flynt Aluminum paint

    • Stir thoroughly before each use and occasionally during use. Do not shake, as that will not be as effective.
    • Clean up with mineral spirits.
    • Do not allow paint to freeze.
  • What is different about Flynt Industrial enamel paint?

Flynt Industrial enamel is a polyurethane-based paint that provides a glossy finish. Its polyurethane formulation offers superior, longer-lasting weather protection compared to alkyd enamel paints, and it is available in a wide range of colors.

  • What are the advantages of Flynt Industrial enamel paint?

Flynt Industrial enamel offers several advantages, including suitability for field application, when bringing equipment back to your facility for painting or using specialized tank/trailer equipment is impractical. Flynt Industrial enamel delivers an attractive finish along with excellent performance when applied directly on-site. It is specially formulated with a lower viscosity for better workability in painting. Flynt White provides a true-white finish, and Flynt Pearl Gray has excellent hiding power. They have a shelf life of up to 3 years if unopened and cover 400–500 square feet.
  • Is Flynt Industrial enamel paint environmentally friendly?

With Flynt Industrial enamel paint, you get not only the superior performance of an oil-based paint, but it also falls well within the maximum VOC limits(400 g/l). It is also low-odor and lead-free.
  • How should you apply Flynt Industrial enamel paint?

Flynt Industrial enamel paint can be applied with a brush, roller, pad, or airless sprayer (0.011–0.017 tips and 2000 psi). For best results, use a natural bristle brush, though most all-purpose brushes and rollers are also suitable. For roller application, use a 1/4" nap roller (a phenolic core roller cover is recommended). All surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of moisture. The air and surface temperature should be above 50°F. Apply at least one hour before the possibility of rain and keep the surface dry for at least 24 hours. Avoid painting in windy conditions. Stir thoroughly before and occasionally during use. Apply each coat in one direction to avoid lap marks, and avoid over-brushing. Clean up with mineral spirits.
  • Do you need a primer for Flynt Industrial enamel paint?

For best results, use Flynt Metal primer on new or rusted metal, then apply your color choice of Flynt Industrial enamel paint as the topcoat. If it is a previously painted surface and the existing coat is mostly in good condition, simply sand (or use a wire brush) the deteriorated areas or rusty areas back to bare metal and apply primer to those areas before applying the top coat.

  • What is Flynt Metal primer?

Flynt Metal primer is a fast-drying alkyd primer designed to protect exterior and interior rust-prone metal surfaces. It provides excellent corrosion protection and can be top-coated with Flynt Industrial enamel in as little as one hour. Designed for use under Flynt Industrial enamel, it helps resist rust spread, improves adhesion when used as a first coat, and is low VOC.

  • What if you want to use just one coat?

One coat of Flynt Industrial enamel paint provides good protection, but darker colors such as Flynt Pearl Gray and Flynt Tan will provide the best hiding power over discolored or dark surfaces. Like all paints, two coats provide better results than one.
  • Can I get Flynt Industrial paint in other colors?

Yes! In addition to Flynt Pearl Gray, Flynt White, and Flynt Tan, we can also manufacture red, blue, and other custom colors to match your specifications. (See color chart)
  • What is the drying time? What is the recoat time?

Flynt Industrial enamel and Flynt Metal primer are dry to the touch within 2–4 hours. Flynt Metal primer can be recoated after 12 hours under moderate conditions, while Flynt Industrial enamel can be recoated after 24 hours. Remember: 2 light coats will outlast 1 heavy coat.

  • What is the coverage?

Practical coverage is approximately 400–500 square feet per gallon on most surfaces. Actual coverage may vary depending on surface irregularities, texture, and spray application loss.
  • What about surface preparation?

All surfaces must be sound, completely dry, and free of contaminants such as dirt, grease, wax, mildew, chalk, and loose rust. Sandblasting or water blasting provides the best surface preparation, but a wire brush or sandpaper may be used when blasting is not practical. Previously painted glossy surfaces should be dulled before painting. If the existing coating is glossy, peeling or chalky, sand the entire surface with fine sandpaper or steel wool. At a minimum, spot-prime all bare areas before painting.
